Description

You asked for it, we listened!  Manufactured here in the US to ensure consistent quality and composition, our BuildTak Polyetherimide (PEI) build surfaces are made from premium Ultem 1000 PEI equipped with the no-cleanup BuildTak Original adhesive.  A comparable alternative to the BuildTak Original 3d printing surface, BuildTak PEI exhibits slightly different adhesion and release properties which vary depending on the material being printed.  In general, BuildTak PEI offers easier release of finished prints while BuildTak Original offers a stronger hold during printing.  Paired with our Complete BuildTak FlexPlate System, you can keep multiple FlexPlates on-hand to easily swap out between the BuildTak Original and BuildTak PEI print surfaces, depending on the material being printed.  (For example, Polycarbonate requires BuildTak’s extra-strong hold to finish prints successfully, while PEI should be used for PETG because of its easier release.)  BuildTak PEI and BuildTak Original are both 0.010″ so no need to re-level when swapping!

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email us at info@buildtak.com.  Happy printing!

I run an Original Prusa i3 MK2S with the Complete BuildTak FlexPlate System. As soon as this PEI surface was available i ordered it and a second Flexplate.

In comparing the Prusa’s PEI surface to the BuildTak PEI Surface:
PRUSA PEI – PLA sticks great and PETG sticks almost too well. So much so pulling a PETG part from the build plate eventually damaged the PEI surface. Prompting me to buy the Complete BuildTak FlexPlate System
BuildTak PEI- PLA comes off almost too easy and the PETG sticks perfectly.

So i tend to use the Orginal BuildTak surface for PLA prints and use the PEI for my PETG prints.

I run a Prusa i3 MK3 and have moved to the BuildTak FlexPlates and their PEI sheets. As another reviewer stated, the Prusa PEI sheets work great with PLA but PEI sticks too well. The work around for that is cleaning the PEI sheet with Original Windex (with ammonia). The BuildTak PEI sheets are much thicker and have stood up to some abuse during the past couple of months I have used them. PLA sticks just fine to the surface if you wash the surface with soap and water. PETG sticks just fine with the same method as the PEI. If it doesnt stick for you, slow the first layer down and use some glue stick if that isnt enough.
I love the BuildTak PEI and will buy it again and again. I am not that big of a fan of the original BT as adhesion with PETG and even PLA can be a bear to remove your prints. Adjusting Live Z can help but its more trouble than its worth for me. BT PEI is my go-to.
